ARTIST STATEMENT
I was raised in the Great Northern Wilderness of northern China not far from the original forest bordering Siberia. The slow seasonal transitions away from the arduous, colorless winters intensified my longing for color.
My memories are of never-ending snowdrifts; the one railroad leading into the depths of the mountains; and of the black and white photos of a city in my parent’s photo album.
Dreaming of becoming an artist took me on a journey from the vast expanse of towering mountains to the bustling cities Harbin and Beijing; from China to the USA. My university studies in eastern and western traditions provided my training that emphasized technique and concentrated on incorporating the artistic schools of both east and west.
My work reflects the freedoms of oriental philosophy with shapes combined with the freedom of western expression through color. It attempts to touch the invisible, by exploring the connecting points between the moment, timelessness, and how this infinite energy acknowledges the goodness of the universe.
Reminiscent of those moments that shaped my life, my art utilizes both color and form to reflect the emotional challenges of an ever-changing life…
It has given me a window to see myself.
